Take your Easter vacation in a lush, tropical island paradise this year. Celebrate the holiday and take a much-needed break to a place full of sand, sun, fun, and plenty of rest and relaxation. Plan your next tropical trip and be sure to include Easter on Maui and Oahu on the list of places to see. Youโll find plenty to do and see, from Easter activities to canโt-miss activities available all year long.
Easter Services
For visitors looking to include the solemn religious celebration, the many churches around the islands will be holding Easter services. Contact your preferred place of worship and ask about dates, times, and locations โ some may even offer sunrise services on the beach.
Easter Meal
After services, celebrate with the big traditional Easter meal. Restaurants on the islands will be serving up the traditional feast, whether itโs served at brunch, lunch, or dinnertime. Contact your restaurant of choice to ask about reservations, or whether you can order the special meal for pick up or delivery to enjoy at your accommodations with loved ones.
Celebration of the Arts
Hawaiian artisans, educators, cultural practitioners, and other artists gather each year to celebrate the spirit of aloha. The celebration is considered Hawaiiโs top arts and cultural festival throughout the island chain and hosts over 60 of the stateโs best cultural offerings. This yearโs 31st annual presentation of the event takes place April 7-8 at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua.
Beaches
There are plenty of things to do and see during an island vacation this Easter, but a visit to the beach is a daily occurrence. This Easter, take a walk along the shore, swim in the Pacific Ocean, or try a new activity like surfing or stand up paddleboarding. No matter how you spend your time on the beaches of Maui or Oahu this Easter, make sure to pack the sun protection and some beach snacks for lazing the day away.
Wildlife Watching
Charter a boat that seeks out some of Hawaiiโs sea life. There are several charters in the marinas of Maui and Oahu that will take you out in search of dolphins, whales, and other ocean dwellers. Bring your camera for pictures of whales breaching, or dolphins coming up for a little air. You might even win their companionship as they race alongside the vessel.
Road to Hana
Pack up the rental car and go on a must-do sightseeing excursion on land this Easter. While the Road to Hana is โonlyโ 64 miles, itโs full of hairpin turns, one-lane bridges, and a myriad of blind spots. You may set out on the journey thinking a 25-mile-an-hour speed limit is slow, but youโll be thankful for it as the road twists and turns. The Road to Hana isnโt just driving. Pull to the side with the many other vehicles and hike to beautiful waterfalls, lava tubes and rocks, black sand beaches, and historic sites like Charles Lindberghโs grave site. You can brave the road on your own and make your own stops, or you can join a tour with a knowledgeable guide who will take you to many of the best landmarks and hiking spots along the way. However you navigate the famous Maui path, make sure to pack plenty of drinks, snacks, and your camera.
Lahaina Banyan Court Park
An Easter trip to Maui is always packed with fun in the sun, but sometimes you need to seek shelter for the sunโs harsh rays. Take a break from the sun and bask in the shade under the oldest tree on the island at Lahaina Banyan Court Park in Lahaina on Maui. Lahaina is historic town just off the harbor and home to the oldest living Banyan tree on the island. The tree is over 150 years old, and actually isnโt a single tree. Over the years, several other Banyan trees grew and โmergedโ to make the beautiful tree you see today.
Rell Sunn Menehune Surf Contest
Celebrate 45 years of the surf contest in 2023. As always, the contest benefits its namesake Rell Sunn Educational Fund, which provides funds and programs for the pursuit of charitable, scientific, and educational purposes, including educating the public on sportsmanship and the environment, combating juvenile delinquency, and providing monies to battle breast cancer, among other things. This yearโs contest takes place at Makaha Beach on Oahu, but a schedule has yet to be published. The event is free to attend.
