Take your next family vacation in a lush, tropical island paradise. Enjoy a much-needed break with the family and head to a place full of sand, sun, fun, and plenty of rest and relaxation. When you plan your tropical trip, be sure to include a stay on Oahu. You’ll find plenty of things to keep you busy, including plenty of family-friendly Oahu activities for every age!

USS Arizona Memorial

President Roosevelt called the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, “A date which will live in infamy.” The attack marked the country’s official entry into World War II. A visit to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is something to put on your family’s must-do list, along with a tour of the USS Arizona Memorial Museum, built directly over the wreckage of the warship that was so irreparably damaged, it didn’t see a day of action in the war. A 45-minute guided tour of the memorial hosted by National Park Service members runs daily 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Tours run every 15 minutes, and each tour is capped at 145 people in accordance with US Navy and US Coast Guard regulations.

Hiking

While your trip to the Hawaiian Islands will likely include a lot of beach-bumming, you’ll also want to make time to see the sights. A driving tour around the island will give you a good look, but some places deserve more than a glimpse out the car window. Get out and take a hike through stunning landscapes for awesome views you don’t get from the car. Explore trails for beginners, like Aiea Loop Trail, a less than five-mile loop that takes you through some of the island’s native beauty, or the Diamond Head Trail, a great option for expert hikers who want a breathtaking view from the top of the volcano.

Beaches

There are plenty of things to do and see during your Oahu family vacation. Spending a little time on the beach each day is a must. Whether it’s just to sit out in the sun, or you wade into the water for some swimming or other fun, a day at a beach on Oahu is not to be missed. Many tourists flock to Waikiki Beach for the iconic experience. Avoid the crowds and explore other beaches around the island, including the one that’s close your rental.

Wildlife Watching

Charter a boat that seeks out some of Oahu’s sea life. There are several charters that will take you out in search of dolphins, whales, and other ocean dwellers that swim the warmer waters of Hawaii. Don’t forget your camera! You might even win their companionship and be able to watch as they race alongside the vessel.

Coral Crater Adventure Park

Head out on an adventure through Oahu’s beautiful wilderness. The company offers zipline tours (3-6 ziplines), where you’ll be guided through the course by professional guides. The full tour is approximately two hours long. Stay at the park and climb the “adventure tower” featuring rope bridges, ziplines, a climbing wall, and more. Cool off after all the fun with a ride on the thrilling Da’ Flowrider bodyboard wave simulator at Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii. All adventures are suitable for guests six-years-old and older. All safety gear is provided.

Iolani Palace

Before Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959, it was its own unified and internationally recognized kingdom. Traces of the monarchy remain throughout the islands, including Oahu. The palace was the official residence of Hawaii’s monarchy, full of grandeur and opulence fitting of a monarch. The restored building in downtown Honolulu is a National Historic Landmark. Two of the island chain’s most notable monarchs, King Kalakaua – who built the magnificent structure – and Queen Liliuokalani, lived in the building.

Snorkeling

The natural beauty of the Hawaiian islands extends to below the waves crashing along its shores. There are a number of tour companies that will take you to some of Oahu’s most breathtaking locations for a look above and below the water. Explore reefs, shipwrecks, or swim with sea life like a variety of fish species or sea turtles! Companies usually provide all the snorkeling gear – mask, snorkel, and swim fins. Some allow you to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, too. Check age requirements before booking, some companies allow children as young as three to take the plunge, while others prefer children be eight and older. Make sure to pack an underwater camera to capture the magnificent underwater world.

Take your Easter vacation in a lush, tropical island paradise this year. Celebrate the holiday and take a much-needed break to a place full of sand, sun, fun, and plenty of rest and relaxation. Plan your next tropical trip and be sure to include Easter on Maui and Oahu on the list of places to see. You’ll find plenty to do and see, from Easter activities to can’t-miss activities available all year long.

Easter Services

For visitors looking to include the solemn religious celebration, the many churches around the islands will be holding Easter services. Contact your preferred place of worship and ask about dates, times, and locations – some may even offer sunrise services on the beach.

Easter Meal

After services, celebrate with the big traditional Easter meal. Restaurants on the islands will be serving up the traditional feast, whether it’s served at brunch, lunch, or dinnertime. Contact your restaurant of choice to ask about reservations, or whether you can order the special meal for pick up or delivery to enjoy at your accommodations with loved ones.

Celebration of the Arts

Hawaiian artisans, educators, cultural practitioners, and other artists gather each year to celebrate the spirit of aloha. The celebration is considered Hawaii’s top arts and cultural festival throughout the island chain and hosts over 60 of the state’s best cultural offerings. This year’s 31st annual presentation of the event takes place April 7-8 at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua.

Beaches

There are plenty of things to do and see during an island vacation this Easter, but a visit to the beach is a daily occurrence. This Easter, take a walk along the shore, swim in the Pacific Ocean, or try a new activity like surfing or stand up paddleboarding. No matter how you spend your time on the beaches of Maui or Oahu this Easter, make sure to pack the sun protection and some beach snacks for lazing the day away.

Wildlife Watching

Charter a boat that seeks out some of Hawaii’s sea life. There are several charters in the marinas of Maui and Oahu that will take you out in search of dolphins, whales, and other ocean dwellers. Bring your camera for pictures of whales breaching, or dolphins coming up for a little air. You might even win their companionship as they race alongside the vessel.

Road to Hana

Pack up the rental car and go on a must-do sightseeing excursion on land this Easter. While the Road to Hana is “only” 64 miles, it’s full of hairpin turns, one-lane bridges, and a myriad of blind spots. You may set out on the journey thinking a 25-mile-an-hour speed limit is slow, but you’ll be thankful for it as the road twists and turns. The Road to Hana isn’t just driving. Pull to the side with the many other vehicles and hike to beautiful waterfalls, lava tubes and rocks, black sand beaches, and historic sites like Charles Lindbergh’s grave site. You can brave the road on your own and make your own stops, or you can join a tour with a knowledgeable guide who will take you to many of the best landmarks and hiking spots along the way. However you navigate the famous Maui path, make sure to pack plenty of drinks, snacks, and your camera.

Lahaina Banyan Court Park

An Easter trip to Maui is always packed with fun in the sun, but sometimes you need to seek shelter for the sun’s harsh rays. Take a break from the sun and bask in the shade under the oldest tree on the island at Lahaina Banyan Court Park in Lahaina on Maui. Lahaina is historic town just off the harbor and home to the oldest living Banyan tree on the island. The tree is over 150 years old, and actually isn’t a single tree. Over the years, several other Banyan trees grew and “merged” to make the beautiful tree you see today.

Rell Sunn Menehune Surf Contest

Celebrate 45 years of the surf contest in 2023. As always, the contest benefits its namesake Rell Sunn Educational Fund, which provides funds and programs for the pursuit of charitable, scientific, and educational purposes, including educating the public on sportsmanship and the environment, combating juvenile delinquency, and providing monies to battle breast cancer, among other things. This year’s contest takes place at Makaha Beach on Oahu, but a schedule has yet to be published. The event is free to attend.

Celebrate Easter on Maui and Oahu

From a cozy studio for a solo or sweetheart escape, to a two-bedroom for you and your loved ones, Midway Vacations has a cozy vacation rental that’s just right for you this Easter. Arrive and feel the stresses and worries of home melt away and be replaced by the spirit of Aloha. Enjoy preparing a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, then stretch out with some popcorn and your favorite show or movie. Private spaces like patios, balconies, and your own bedroom means you can retreat to privacy whenever you need.
